On The Nextstage

The Story: In a Chicago junk shop, three small time crooks plot to rob a man of his coin collection. The shop’s owner, Don, thinks he got conned when he sold a (maybe) rare buffalo-head nickel for $90. He enlists Bobby, his young gofer, to steal it back. Dons friend Teach gets wind of the scheme and wants in on the heist. They meet late at night to finesse their plans, as Teach and Bobby vie for Don’s attention and respect.

The Experience: An intense ride, savage and funny. Gripping entertainment. Mamet’s plays are known for their rich characters, their unflinching portrayal of the ethics of business and friendship, and their brilliant, edgy dialogue.

The Buzz: Best American Play, New York Drama Critics Circle Award 1976-77.
David Mamet burst onto the American theatre scene in the 1970s with one of the freshest, most distinctive voices of the 20th century. Over the last three decades his career has spanned television, film and theatre all over the world, and he counts the Pulitzer, a Tony, and assorted OBIEs, Drama Desk, and Critics Circle Awards among his many accolades. This marks Geva’s first production of a David Mamet play.

The Fine Print: Strong profanity, physical violence and adult subject matter.
